Whiplash the Monkey, Turkey Legs, and Willie - OH MY!!!

Took some of the folks from Utah that were in town for work to the Austin Rodeo last night. We got there WAY early, but that was my fault. I'm such a planner, that I wanted to be sure to avoid traffic, be there in time to see some stuff, eat, and enjoy the rodeo - Texas style. We did all of those, but were there for quite a while before the main attraction - Willie Nelson - came on. The internet said 830pm for his show to start.....but it lied. Guess you can't believe everything that you read online afterall - hmmm.

When we got to a side stage tent, I asked someone sitting there what was about to happen, he said "In 10 minutes, there is going to be a monkey riding a dog, chasing sheep.". I asked him where he got this information from, because it sounded too good to be true.....but, it turns out he wasn't lying, so we got to catch Whiplash, I'm pretty sure he was a spider monkey, riding a border collie, and chasing sheep around the tent. It was so adorable!!! He was hanging on with all his might - so cute!!!

After that, we decided it was time to grab some, oh-so-awesome festival food before heading into the rodeo tent. I knew I wanted a turkey leg as soon as I walked in....so I indulged!!! Sooooo yummy!!

We watched the barrel racing, bronc and bull riding.....little kids holding on to running sheep was probably my favorite....do they have that event for grownups??

Willie finally came on around 10, and we stayed for a few songs. The acoustics in that place were terrible, and they didn't have Willie hooked up to an amp, not to mention that we were in the 2nd to last row in the top corner, so it sounded and looked like we were catching the show on TV. We decided to call it a night and get out of there before the big rush back to parking.

Overall, it was a fun night, and I think that my Utah friends are fully brainwashed that Texas is a great place to live. :)

Please tell me you got some video of Whiplash... that sounds hilarious!

And that turkey leg... holy cow... it's huge! You should have taken a picture after you finished it and you had BBQ sauce all over your face. :o)

DOH!!!.....I need you to remind me of these things BEFORE I go. I do remember putting the camera in video mode, but then it slipped my mind. Darn it, next time.

Oh, I'm such a lady like eater, I didn't even use my napkin - haha!!
